My Mumps Story
by Dawn Wirth

I remember hearing about the Mumps on Rodney's show. I was able to get to interview the band backstage at the Whiskey. The interview was for a UK magazine. Sandy Robertson (a UK journalist) had me stake out bands that would be interesting to people in the UK. Granted I was about 17 at time, I only knew of Lance, because of the TV show "An American Family". So, I think I was unfair to the rest of the band, because most of the questions were about Lance. Also, I learned that when you are interviewing people, you don't let them look at the questions.

The Mumps were an awesome band. The songs and music was heaven here on Earth for me. Brad Dunning was the West Coast fan club president and he would let me give him photos that I had taken of the Mumps to put in the fan club news.

I also got to be pen pals with Kristian. In one of the letters I sent him, I was upset, because he threw a polka dot tie out into the audience at a Whiskey show. I was upset, because it wasn't me that was able to grab it out of all the people who tried to get it. Kristian explained it was a "spare at the moment". About a month later, Kristian, the gentleman he is, sent me a red polka- dot tie. I was so happy. I wore the tie with pride everywhere, especially at High School, cause I got strange looks, but I didn't care, I knew Kristian Hoffman and he gave me a tie!
